Basic stuff everyone should know Here is my list of the top ten things everyone should know when they are just getting started in Photoshop.  Not knowing them cost me time and a lot of aggravation and I don't want you to have to go through that. Here they are:

The Clone Tool
The clone tool is awesome for blending and removing imperfections in your images.  You can remove unwanted objects from the background, soften or remove wrinkles in the face, wipe out blemishes, you name it.  The healing brush and patch tools are great for eliminating blemishes and wrinkles. See Retouching Part II- The Healing and PatchTools.

Dodging and Burning (or lightening and darkening selectively)  Do you want to make your images pop? Do you want to draw the viewer right to the center of interest?  It is time to learn to adjust the values of your image by selective lightening and darkening, also known as dodging and burning.

Basic Tone Curve Adjustments in Photoshop This video tutorial shows how to use one of many cool tools in Photoshop, the Tone Curve adjustment. This is a slick way to change how dark the darks are, or in this case, take some darks and make them middle tones as they should be. You can change any part, light or dark, and it is just so easy to do! Have fun!

The White Vignette Here is a quick and easy way to recreate a look from a bygone era: the white vignette. I love it with high key images and sepia-tone head shots of babies.

Removing Eyeglass glare without smashing the lenses Eyeglass glare has long been the curse of portrait photographers and I wish I could say that digital has taken all our worries away but it is still tough to deal with.  The one thing that is easier now is that once we have removed the glare on an image, it is gone forever.  In the days of film, we removed glare with a tiny spotting brush and dyes and had to paint in the eyes on every print.  This was very tedious if you had 10 5x7’s of the same image!

Video Tutorial: Perspective Corrections This video tutorial shows how to straighten your verticals ... and even fix a bulging door! All in less than five minutes!

Fun Frames Here’s how to add a fun digital frame to a favorite image!  I’ve broken the process down into itty-bitty steps, to make it easy to follow along.

Creating a Custom Logo Brush Put your name on all your images easily once you make your own custom logo brush.

Creative Composites How do we create interesting composite images? It's not that difficult.
