Adding a Mirrored-in-Water effect - by Cindy Kassab

I love this image, which I took last November at sunset in Cannon Beach, Oregon.  But the more I looked at it, the more I wanted to...do a little something more.

So, I extended the canvas at the bottom. (Image/Canvas Size.  For this, I pressed the up-arrow in the top center, and entered '3 inches' for height.)  Then it looked like this:

I selected most of the original image using the Marquee tool (Normal mode) and then chose Select/Modify.  I added a 3 px feather, then clicked OK.  I copied (Ctrl-C) and pasted (Ctrl-V) the selection, creating a second layer.

Then I flipped the second layer by clicking Edit/Transform/Flip Vertical.  I moved the second layer where I wanted it (using the Move Tool) and then added a layer mask.  Using the Brush Tool, I brushed across the middle to bring the original image back a bit.  Then I applied a box blur (Filter/Blur/Box Blur) of 2 pixels.  After a little more fussing to add a ripple effect, I wound up with this as the final image:
