Thoughts for the day ...

Two quick comments struck me today from Joe McNally, during an interview on PhotoshopUserTV. The first is "Photography always has been first and foremost about relating to and with people". The second, about what to do when "it" just won't happen: "Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield; but I've built my professional skills to work through these moments so I ALWAYS get something useful for the client."
Whether you are a professional or "merely" taking pics for friends at a baby shower, and no matter how successful or not your photography is at that moment, photography isn't about hearing that sound in the forest by yourself and never sharing it with anyone. Really, what we do is about communicating with those around us through our photography ... and at times, our words. There are those times where we need to work with the people around us for what we CAN do in that moment, that place, that time. Perhaps not all expectations can be met, but when we work with the other people involved, we can meet their needs.
Hey, why do baseball players look back with pride on a career (and head to the line for the Hall of Fame!) when they only hit safely 1/3rd of the time? We can do so much better than that!
