This growing home ...

We've had dreams of what MyPhotoMentor could be like, and now, it's starting to come true. We have a vast store of marketing knowledge coming on board soon, a gentle yet eager mentor in business matters who also is a fine photographer himself. We are so thrilled to add him into the expertise we gift to our members. We've been having more fun on the discussion boards than some thought possible. And we've been able to mentor some wonderful people as we discuss their images.
What this has done is very simple: it has whetted our appetite for helping more people. Mentoring others as we all walk through life togther is our joy, and it has become our duty. A duty we have chosen to accept, and for which we are humbly grateful. It is something for which we are uniquely suited.
When we choose to accept that which we are best suited to do, we (as Robert Frost said) join our vocation and our avocation into one. As I write this, I am home with my family watching the wonderful movie, "The Ultimate Gift". I do not know how the movie will end. But the gifts it has given already I am grateful to have received. What further I may gain in enjoyment or wisdom as this movie unfolds is, as they say, just gravy. I do know, it is something about learning the value of living a dream, and then, life may become something where we go home, and yet to a place we've never been before.
And yet, it is home. A more wonderful home than we've ever imagined. A home we didn't know to dream of, because we didn't know it could exist. A home where we belong in the deepest sense.
That vision of home separates our place here at MyPhotoMentor from so many other places, where photography is just a thing that is taught or discussed for money. Money is part of life, but here we are about fulfilling dreams. For turning dreams into waking life. And waking life into a dream.
For Miriam and I, who met while in college learning to be teachers, life has been a long segue into finding ourselves as artists, finding our individual voices in our art, and now, coming home to teaching. For Cherie, being a writer and artist and teacher was always a dream, one of fits and starts ... until the loss of her beloved Lee left her needing to find some way, some path, some dream that could shine strongly enough in her darkened world to light her way back among the living as opposed to those who merely exist by breathing.
As we struggled over the last few years, both individually and together, we've had countless discussions over what would be a dream worth the living, what dream could stir the passions in all of us that could make every minute a joy and an honor. This site, this home, is what came of our shared dreams. It is our gift for all that we have been given, our way of expressing our gratitude for the gifts we have received and our joy in helping others learn to find, focus, and follow their own passions.
Please, spread the word, ask others to join with us, to share with us in the very special times we have yet to find as they unfold around us here. And always, walk with joy of the gifts seen or unseen in every one you meet.
If we are to be successful, it will be in how we help you to bless others. How we all will be blessed we cannot yet begin to know. But isn't it worth the journey? Learning to walk in a waking dream is the great gift we can and wil give to each other through our combined passions and talents here.
We, the founders and staff of MyPhotoMentor, will give you our hearts and our dreams. Please, take them and use them, blend them with your own, and become what you have only dreamed of!
