Tagging the line ...

Sorry, couldn't resist playing with the lyrics from the ol' 60's song "Draggin' the Line" ... they just popped into my head! It's the kind of spontaneous happening that is half the fun of "tagging" or key-wording our pics. It come in during those slow moments when we're wondering what tags DO we put on any specific image? Take this one below, for example (NOT the funky self-portrait!):

This is taken on the US Capitol Mall ... from the base of the Washington Monmument back to the US Capitol building. That stone on the right is the Washington Monument ... though you'd never recognize it just by looking at it, unless you knew the place. Should that be a tag? The Capital building we can assume should be tagged, and probably the mall too. But should we tag for the US flags waving in the breeze? Are they enough of the image to "earn" a tag? Or is a flying flag something that say, YOU, would ever search for?
If you wouldn't ever search for it, nor think that anyone taking over your collection would, why take the time to tag something? Well ... but maybe ... and therein lies the chief time-taker of tagging. Wellllllllll ..... maybe?
How about this? That sort-of castle-like tower on the distant right is the Smithsonian's "Castle" building. Should THAT be tagged? Or the fact that this has a crowd or random people in it? Especially for "stock" use, having a crowd looking over something can be of use. For your own personal files, it's probably not notable enough to be ... noted. Tagged.
There'll be more on this continually coming on-line here, so hang around or keep coming back!
