Walk around before you shoot!

When you are taking a photograph of, say, a flower or some other stationary object, first walk around it and note how the light falling on it, reflecting from it, and shining through it change as you move.
Try a couple different places, and see which work best. Do you prefer light refecting off the flower's petals or shining through them? Does the light from one direction or angle give more shape and dimension than from another angle?
