Eliminating Camera Shake

Tuesday, April 20th 2010 @ 8:55 PM (not yet rated)    post viewed 275 times

Want sharp images with no image shake? Keep your shutter speed at or above the focal length of the lens.

For example, if you have a 70-200mm lens zoomed all the way out, set your shutter speed at 200 or higher. If you are shooting it at 70mm, a shutter speed of 100 should be fine.

An IS lens (with image stabilization) will allow you to shoot at somewhat slower shutter speeds without a tripod but you will still need a steady hand so test yourself. Take your longest lens, zoom it all the way out and take a series of photographs at different shutter speeds. Upload the images and look closely at the sharpness. You will soon learn how slow  you can go without a tripod.
