Focus, Focus, Focus!

Monday, July 12th 2010 @ 8:12 AM (not yet rated)    post viewed 373 times

There is nothing more distressing than discovering that you have a great image but it is out of focus.

Photoshop has great sharpening tools but they only go so far. An out of focus image is still out of focus. Modern cameras have great auto focus tools but you need to know how they work and use them properly. My camera will allow me to choose between manual focus and several different ways to auto focus.

FYI, I always use auto focus. I like setting the exposure manually but not focus!

Pick up your manual and read the section about focusing to make sure you realy understand how your camera does it. When photographing take several shots of each subject and refocus in between each one.

Miriam,

So true ... but Auto-focus doesn't always work like we THINK is should from the descriptions in the manual and the indicators in the viewfinder/LCD screen ... so one ALWAYS needs to read the FULL manual section on focusing options and TEST TEST TEST to check to see where the REAL focus-sensor is sensing as the indicator on the screen may be too big, too small, or just off a bit from the actual area read by the sensor.

Cool pic, the bottom one ... where'd THAT come from?!
