This is lovely, and going to b/w on it was a great choice. I love using lenses with BIG f-stops, the really wide-open ones that are down to at LEAST f2.8, if not f1.8 or f1.4 even. The shallow area in focus is so fun to play with ... though it can be deucedly difficult to work with at times. As in this, where the focus is just behind the stone ... I don't know HOW many times I've done this kind of thing, except *I* manage to do it with someone's eyes instead. That's really a precious thing to do ... the ears are tack sharp but the eyes are a bit fuzzy, oh, what a special effect!
The composition is so smoothly done here ... great lighting, as the areas of bright/dark contrast are right where you want the eyese to go ... and between the skin and the yarn you've got wonderful texture to show details in where it's sharp, a very interesting image for the eye ...
