Fuji S5

The two biggest selling points are for the S5 are outstanding image quality and wide dynamic range.

You will fall in love with the smoothness of the images. It simply lacks the harsh, "pixelly" look that so many digtal cameras have, making it wonderful for portrait work. It is often compared to the Nikon D200. They do use the same body and mechanicals like the shutter and focusing system, which are rugged Nikon and good to have.

But the S5 is far easier to use and produces much better images. It is not as complicated to use as the D200, and takes a different battery than the D200 in the same-shaped "hole", so it is not completely interchangeable ... though all other accesories as far as flash and grips work on both.

Take the S5 outside on a sunny day and you will find its ability to hold detail in the highlihts simply amazing. Although I do shoot RAW in many situations, its jpegs are so good, it is not surprising that some photographers don't even bother with RAW.

The S5 has a Nikon body and can control the SB-800 and SB-900 flash units remotely with no additional gizmo's. Love it!

I agree. The S5 is my go-to camera. The dynamic range is one of the best amongst ANY digital cameras, and the color is...well, color is very important to me, and I can't imagine using any other camera. While I am a big believer in manually white-balancing before photographing, I have to admit that I rarely perform a white-balance outside the studio anymore. The automatic settings in this camera are excellent!
