"Fast Track Photographer" by Dane Sanders

A look at how to view the evolving brave new world of business we are now in.

If the world of business seems a different place than it was, Dane Sanders is here to tell you that you don't yet understand the half of it. Having read his book, the revised and expanded edition of "Fast Track Photographer", what he says makes sense out of the stunning and puzzling changes in the way our clients and the public around us react to photograhy, marketing, advertising, and businesses in general.

The new paradigm of business is the individual as THE commodity of value. It is through each person's strengths that uniqueness and therefore value arises, not through the products that they create. Among other things, he explains why the "playing field" is leveled as to be completely flat now, and what that means both for the capability of "newbies" to enter business fields and for established photographic entities to thrive and grow. AND why, if we do NOT understand and adapt to the massive changes that have already occured, we will quickly be a postscript to history and nothing more.

Throughout, he stresses that we must always mentally adapt to what is and get over whining about what was ... to get past placing value judgements on whether the new rules of engagement are better or worse ... and to realize that the world around is and always has been just what it is, nothing more nor less. Our problem is simply that we are living in an era where "what is" becomes "what was" at a dizzying pace.

Included in each book is a code to go to a website and do a one-time test of your own skills and weaknesses, for he states that it is in knowing your strengths that you build a business or brand that can grow, and in delegating out your weaknesses through out-sourcing that you let go of the limitations that keep you from growing.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Whether your "real" business is photography or anything else, this is a fast, direct, and informative read!

Dane Sanders is a new-ish photographer (to one with 30+ years in the business!) who has suddenly "exploded" onto the help-yourself-to-be-better scene in professional photography through his way of looking at the massive and irrevocable changes in the way business and especially photography business is conducted now versus how is was done up to the year 2000. He has quickly become a recognized expert at out-sourcing various parts of the photographic and business tasks, and conducts classes, seminars, and webinars around the US.

This is a very fine and informative read explaining the rapid changes that have completely and permanently altered the business practices of the world, and especially how the new rules make a career in photography both easier and more difficult to build. By understanding the implications and applications of these changes, one can avoid the pitfalls and leverage the advantages of modern life.
